"Never felt safe" - J.T. Poston reflects on his third career PGA Tour win at Shriners Children's Open

J.T. Poston fired a 4-under 67 in the final round to win the Shriners Children's Open, defeating Doug Ghim by one stroke. This was his third PGA Tour victory and his first in over two years.

Poston was playing his first event since the BMW Championship, but it didn’t seem like he was coming off a two-month break, as he opened the week with a 7-under 64. He shot 65, 66, and 67 in the following three rounds to finish at 22-under. Ghim made a strong effort with two birdies on the final three holes but still fell short of forcing a playoff.

During the post-round interview, J.T. Poston reflected on the pressure of the final round, stating that it felt like a grind throughout the day.

"I know I had a comfortable lead for the most of day but it never felt safe," he said as per Golfweek. "Doug was playing great and I felt like I was kind of just plotting it around."

Throughout the round, Poston's putting was clutch, as he sank a few close ones on the ninth, tenth, and finally the 18th hole to avoid a playoff finish.

Doug was obviously making some birdies, and he made a nice three there on 9 and was applying the pressure," he said in the winner's press conference. "I told myself I was playing good, putting good, just trying to stay in my own lane.
"But, yeah, those putts on 9 and 10 to keep the lead and never quite give it up was big. I mean, thankfully was able to knock one in there on 18," he added.
