"No" – World No. 1 Jon Rahm doesn’t stutter while answering query on whether anyone could beat him
Jon Rahm is in some serious form this year. He has won five times in his last nine starts and has already emerged victorious in three events this year. Confidence seems to have oozed out of the World No. 1, not just in his game on the field but in his comments as well.
Rahm was asked in a press conference ahead of the Arnold Palmer Invitational if he thinks anyone can beat him when he is firing "all cylinders". The Spaniard didn't wait long to respond and responded with a firm "No".
Golf Twitter was quick to react. Here's a look at a few of them:
"That's the firmest no I've ever head [heard]"
"We will see at Augusta when the Cam Smith and DJ show up."
"I don't doubt it!"
"That's the exact answer every player on tour should have."
"Can appreciate this. But what does it say when he’s firing on 'all cylinders' like 3% of the time?"
"He's not wrong and it is not an arrogant answer."
"Rahm is a phenomenal talent but Rory Mcilroy has the highest ceiling in golf right now. When he is playing his absolute best, nobody could beat him. I would make an argument for Rahm 2nd but I will say he is more consistent than Rory."
"What did you expect him to say? Rory, JT, Scheffler and several others would say the same."
"I know the feeling and it really is the very best feeling in the world (for a sportsman anyway) unfortunately I just haven’t had it for a while 🤣"
"This guy is for sure winning 2 majors this year. Bet that a*** on that! #Rahmbo"
"That's the man!! Great answer Ranbo! 💪🏻⛳️"
"No lies detected."
"He can putt like the others can’t … that’s the difference between the other contenders. Rory puts it close on all shots but can’t putt like Rahm."
"That’s a d*** question. Rahm already proved that it’s nearly impossible to beat him when he’s playing his best."
"That's a du** question to ask any competitor. If anyone has any answer other than no they need to quit right then because they have already been beaten."
"That’s is stupid question and answer I have ever heard, how can the same not be said about most professional golfers besides what is he supposed to say yes? Jeez."
What's next for Jon Rahm?
Jon Rahm will be playing in the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill that starts on Thursday, March 2. Once again, the World No. 1 will enter the 120-player field event as the tournament favorite. Rahm has already captured the Sentry Tournament of Champions, American Express, and the Genesis Invitational.
Jon Rahm will get stiff competition from the likes of Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler as there is a three-way race to World No. 1. While Rory started 2023 as the top-ranked golfer, Scheffler dethroned him after capturing the Waste Management Phoenix Open. Rahm emerged as the new No. 1 after his triumph at Riviera Country Club.
