“Not our duty”: LIV golfer Cam Smith takes a break from the Saudi league to play golf in his hometown

Following the conclusion of the LIV Golf season, Cam Smith is set to compete in the Australian swing. This week, he’s playing in the Ford NSW Open, taking place from Thursday, November 14 to Sunday, November 17, at the Murray Downs Golf & Country Club.

Smith was last seen in action at the Queensland PGA Championship, where he tied for third. In a recent interview, he mentioned how LIV Golf's schedule had given him more opportunities to play in Australia.

"The last couple of years I’ve played the big two, I guess you’d call them, and I wanted to play more," he said, as per Australina Golf Digest. "I had a lot of stuff going on at the end of last year.

"I've always wanted to play [more in Australia], but just really didn’t have the time. Whereas now I feel like I’ve got a little bit more time, particularly finishing earlier. I feel like it’s … not our duty to do it, but I feel like it’s just a nice thing to do so why not do it?" he added.

Cam Smith is not done yet for this season, as he still has the Australian PGA Championship and the Australian Open left to compete in. He accepted that one of the reasons to play the smaller events was to get some practice ahead of the premier Australian events.

"You can hit balls on the on the range endlessly but I think being competitive and being in a competitive environment is also really important," he added.

Cam Smith is a three-time winner at the Australian PGA Championship and a one-time runner-up at the Australian Open.
