“Nothing quite like Ryder Cup”: Rory McIlroy announces new documentary
Team Europe secured a thundering victory at the 2023 Ryder Cup in Rome. Rory McIlroy has announced a documentary on the monumental win.
The Northern Irish star took to social media on Thursday to share a trailer for the documentary, titled 'Una Familgia'. The 90-minute film released on December 3rd, 2024 on Ryder Cup's YouTube channel as well on TV in 100 countries. In the US, it will be broadcast on Golf Channel on December 10, 2024.
The trailer featured moments from the tournament, a peek into the dressing room as well as Team Europe's joyous moments after winning the Cup. McIlroy could be seen reflecting about the biennial event in an interview. 'Una Familgia' is produced by the Ryder Cup Productions in association with IMG and Rolex.
He wrote in the caption: "There’s nothing quite like the Ryder Cup. Watch the documentary about our 2023 victory."
The 2025 Ryder Cup is less than year away. Rory McIlroy has been a regular fixture at the tournament and will also most probably make the team next year, given his incredible run this season.
Who all have given exclusive interviews in 'Una Familigia' along with Rory McIlroy?
In the trailer released on social media on Thursday by Rory McIlroy, the Race to Dubai winner was seen giving an exclusive interview talking about the emotional factor of winning the Ryder Cup. According to the press release by the DP World Tour, several other European stars have also given exclusive bytes in 'Una Familigia'.
Ace golfers such as Jon Rahm, Shane Lowry, and Tommy Fleetwood have also given intereviews in the documentary, chronicling the importance of being a part of Team Europe. 'Una Familgia' will also shed light on Luke Donald's captaincy and how his methods prompted the golfers to ask to extend his leadership to the 2025 edition as well.
Donald, who had replaced Henrik Stenson after his defection to LIV Golf, talked about how Team Europe is like "one big family" (via DP World Tour):
"Team Europe has always been one big family and that bond was instrumental to our success in Rome last year. The Ryder Cup is about being part of something bigger than yourself and that ethos is something that has been passed down between generations of European players,"
He further added:
"The documentary gives fans an insight into the level of detail that goes into our preparations, leaving the viewer in no doubt as to how much the Ryder Cup means to European golf,"
The European side managed a landslide victory of 16.5-11.5 on home soil in Italy last year. Next year, the Ryder Cup will take place in the US.
