“Now add #peoplesfavourite” – Greg Norman heaps praise on LIV Golf’s Bryson DeChambeau for his US Open 2024 win
Bryson DeChambeau won the US Open 2024 on Sunday and Greg Norman is all praises. The LIV Golf CEO took to his Instagram handle to congratulate the 30-year-old golfer for his second Major win.
DeChambeau made a memorable bunker shot on the 18th hole at Pinehurst No. 2 to close with a 1-over 71. The ace golfer beat Rory McIlroy to the trophy. Following the win, Norman said the Crushers GC captain’s round was a “joy to watch.” The 69-year-old Aussie, who runs the breakaway tour, also addressed DeChambeau’s makeover as a ‘fan favorite’ at the event.
The 1986 and 1993 Open Championship winner said the two-time US Open champion can “add #peoplesfavourite” to the list of his qualities like “guts, determination, belief, drive and talent.”
Greg Norman wrote on Instagram:
“Bryson Dechambeau your golf, guts, determination, belief, drive, incredible skills and talent - shown with that up and down from the bunker on 18 - was there for all to witness. Now add #peoplesfavourite your second US Open golf was a joy to watch. Congrats mate”
Norman shared the write-up with images of Bryson DeChambeau holding the US Open trophy. The Aussie ended the special message by saying, “See you next week at LIV Golf Nashville.” In the post, he tagged the official pages of LIV Golf and Bryson’s LIV side Crushers GC.
How did LIV golfers finish at the US Open 2024?
Bryson DeChambeau won the US Open 2024 and became the second LIV golfer to win a Major, after Brooks Koepka’s PGA Championship win last year. The ace golfer managed a stunning finish by making a bunker shot from 55 yards out on the 18th hole at Pinehurst. He made a 4-foot par putt to finish with a 1-over 71.
With this, DeChambeau bagged the winner’s $4,300,000 paycheck from the event’s record $21,500,000 purse. The golfer also earned some valuable world ranking points. The LIV star jumped 28 spots on the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) from 38th to 10th. This is his best-ranking position since joining the Saudi-backed circuit.
Bryson DeChambeau was part of a 12-man entourage from LIV Golf at the US Open. While the ace golfer won the event, Sergio Garcia managed the second-best finish from a LIV star. The Ryder Cup veteran finished 13th on the leaderboard.
It is pertinent to note that the Spanish golfer managed a top-15 finish after making it into the event field as an alternate. Tyrrell Hatton and Brooks Koepka shared T26 after finished 6 over. Cameron Smith settled for a T32 finish, while David Puig ended up solo-55th.
2014 US Open champion Martin Kaymer finished T-64, while South African Dean Burmester closed 15 over at 69th. Notably, Phil Mickelson, Eugenio Chacarra, Dustin Johnson and Adrian Meronk crashed out of the event early after failing to make the Friday cut.
