"Open your eyes and get your facts straight please"- Phil Mickelson slams news report over "dismissed" claims

Phil Mickelson this week spoke out strongly against claims made in a recently published article by Dylan Dethier. The golf writer spoke about a "shift" in golf as professional golfers became more active on social media.

Recently, Bryson DeChambeau released the final episode of the Break 50 challenge and also completed the ace-over-his-mansion challenge. Meanwhile, Mickelson collaborated with renowned golf creator Grant Horvat for a new video and also announced a 2v2 golf series, which will start in January.

In his article for Golf.com, Dethier mentioned Mickelson's YouTube collaboration and also his comment on the PGA Tour's NFT investment. He wrote (via Golf.com),

"Mickelson is no stranger to the content space — his Phireside chats made for a fascinating Twitter series — but while we’ve seen golfers featured on plenty of YouTube channels, pros as content creators is a more recent development. While Mickelson’s claims that the Tour is sitting on 'multiple billions of dollars' in NFTs may have been aggressive, it’s clear he’s using the freedom of a LIV offseason to play a different type of team golf and potentially unlock some extra value in the process."

Following the publication of Dethier's article, Phil Mickelson took to X (formerly Twitter) to address some of the claims the writer made. Mickelson wrote,

"In this article you dismissed my claim that the tour is sitting on billions of dollars in nft’s and digital moments. Let me point out that when Ron Price testified in front of of congress he was asked how much assets does the Tour have. He said a little less than 3 billion. 4 months later they sold a stake to SSG on a valuation of 12.5 billion. Where do you think the 9.5 billion discrepancy came from? That’s right, digital moments and nft’s. 🤦‍♂️ open your eyes and get your facts straight please."

Phil Mickelson is currently enjoying his off-season away from the greens. The third season of LIV Golf concluded in September. This season on the Saudi circuit, Mickelson recorded some impressive finishes, including a T6 in Jeddah, a T22 in Singapore, a T27 in Andalucia, and a T23 in Chicago.

Aside from that, the former PGA Tour golfer also competed in the Majors and recorded a couple of decent finishes. He was tied for 43 at the Masters and T60 at the Open Championship. However, he missed the cut in the other two Majors.
