Paige Spiranac gets candid about The Showdown’s venue, talks about the people working there
Paige Spiranac recently got candid about the Shadow Creek, the Showdown's venue. She said it was her favorite golf course and had some great people to work with.
Spiranac is a former professional golfer-turned-golf influencer. She enjoys over 4 million followers on Instagram and more than 1 million on X. She is known for regularly giving her takes on golf and other sports.
On Tuesday, December 17, Paige Spiranac took to X to share her admiration for Shadow Creek.
"Shadow Creek is one of my favorite courses! Great course," she wrote. "Always great conditions, and more importantly some of the best people ever who work there. It’s special!"
This wasn't the first time that Shadow Creek hosted a Showdown-like event. A few years ago it was the venue for The Match: Tiger vs. Phil, the exhibition face-off between two stalwarts of the game. Besides, it has also hosted the 2020 CJ Cup and has also been organizing the Bank of Hope LPGA Match-Play in recent years.
The Shadow Creek was designed by Tom Fazio and was built by Steve Wynn in 1990. Initially, a 7,239-yard golf course, it was increased to 7,560-yard in 2008. It is also known for the costliest tee time in the United States of America at $1250.
Paige Spiranac reacts to US Ryder Cup players receiving stipends
A couple of days ago, the PGA officially announced that US players would receive a $200K stipend and an additional $300K for charity. Paige Spiranac took to X to share her perspective on the announcement.
"Players in the Ryder Cup will receive 200k stipend and 300k towards charity," she wrote. "I am not privy to the inside information to know if this is fair or not. Selfishly I love the idea that the pride of representing your country is the driving force in the Ryder Cup not money.
"But from a business perspective they should be fairly compensated. I just wish this wasn’t public information considering all the money conversations surrounding golf right now," she added.
In the past, Spiranac has consistently expressed that the Ryder Cup should not be played for monetary benefit.
The next Ryder Cup is scheduled to take place from September 23 to 28, 2025, at Bethpage Black Course in Farmingdale, New York. Team Europe will enter as the defending champion after securing a 16.5–11.5 victory over Team USA at Marco Simone Golf Club in Rome.
