“Pants were def ruined”: PGA Tour player pokes fun at Scottie Scheffler’s arrest as NFL star Tyreek Hill gets detained in $299,000 car

Scottie Scheffler's arrest last May was recalled this Sunday, September 8, when National Football League (NFL) star Tyreek Hill was pulled over in Miami. The player was stopped for speeding in his $299,000 McLaren 720.

Tyreek Hill's detention was filmed by several people in the area, and the videos have gone viral on social media. One of those who responded was PGA Tour player Michael Kim, who drew a humorous parallel between Hill's situation and that of Scottie Scheffler. Here is what Kim posted on X (formerly Twitter):

"Pants were def ruined… Prob more expensive in Miami than Louisville too"

According to Athlon Sports, Hill was driving a McLaren 720, a car capable of going from 0 to 60 MPH in 2.8 seconds. The brand's official website reflects that the car has a U.S. price tag of $299,000.

Police officer damaged his pants during Scottie Scheffler arrest

Michael Kim's joke is related to the claim by Detective Bryan Gillis, the Metro Louisville Police Department officer who arrested Scottie Scheffler, that his pants were torn during the arrest.

In the days following the arrest, Detective Gillis stated that he suffered some bruising as well as damage to the pants he was wearing, which cost $80. The officer even included this damage in the official report, describing the pants as "damaged beyond repair."

Scottie Scheffler was stopped outside the Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky, on his way to the second round of the PGA Championship, the second major of the season. Scheffler attempted to overcome a police stop, which resulted in his vehicle being pulled over and he was arrested.

The arrest occurred in the early morning hours in the rain during a traffic stop. Scottie Scheffler, who was traveling in a vehicle identified as being in the service of the PGA Championship, claimed that he did not understand the directions given to him, so he thought he could continue despite the police stop.

Charges against Scheffler were later dropped by the Louisville Prosecutor's Office.

Tyreek Hill's detention

According to an ESPN report, Tyreek Hill was pulled over for speeding outside the Hard Rock Stadium, home of Hill's Miami Dolphins. The player reportedly argued with the officers, which led to his detention.

Videos circulating on social media show that four police officers were involved in Hill's detention. They can be seen placing the player's face down with his hands behind his back as they handcuff him. One of the officers has their knee on Hill's back.

Hill's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, later said the detetion was for a driving violation. The Miami Dolphins' official X account called it a "traffic incident."

"This morning, WR Tyreek Hill was pulled over for a traffic incident about one block from the stadium and briefly detained by police. He has since been released. Several teammates saw the incident and stopped to offer support."
"Tyreek and all other players involved have safely arrived to the stadium and will be available for today’s game."

Tyreek Hill was quickly released and was available for the game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. His performance included scoring a touchdown in the third quarter. During his celebration, he appeared to re-enact his arrest with teammate Jaylen Waddle acting as a police officer.
