“Part of $7,500,000 will go into his retirement fund” - Sahith Theegala’s partner Julianna lists golfer’s special perks from FedExCup

Sahith Theegala's partner, Julianna Chan, recently shared information on the golfer's perks from among his FedEx Cup earnings. The American golfer, who finished third in the season-ending Tour Championship, earned a $7.5 million paycheck from the event.

Finishing in the top 30 at the Tour Championship guarantees a two-year exemption on the PGA Tour. Theegala has thus secured his place on the Tour until the 2026 season, along with exemptions to compete in all four Majors in 2025.

Chan, in a video shared on her TikTok account, shared that with this two-year extension, Theegala will have spent five years on the Tour, making him eligible for the PGA Tour’s retirement plan. Further, she added that a portion of his earnings from the Tour Championship will automatically be added to his "retirement fund."

Speaking about the perks, Chan said:

"So since Sahith has now locked up his final two years of that five years he will be guaranteed retirement from the PGA Tour[...]Sahith got third-place money so he ended up getting $7.5million for his third place at the Tour Championship. So part of the money he receives from that $7.5m will go into his retirement fund automatically.”

The FedEx Cup Bonus plan allows players to access the funds once they turn 45.

According to golf business writer Jared Doerfler on perfectputt,

"A player that finishes 30th in the FedEx Cup will win $500,000 — $245,000 in cash and $255,000 in deferred retirement compensation. If a player finishes outside the top 30 — all of their winnings are in the form of deferred retirement compensation."

Theegala has had an impressive season, with total earnings of $8.2 million from various PGA Tour events in 2024, according to the Tour's official website. He could have potentially earned around $10 million from the 2024 Tour Championship, but following a self-reported two-stroke penalty, he finished third.

During the third round, Theegala notified PGA Tour officials that his club had touched the sand while taking a shot from a bunker, a violation of Rule 12.2b. As a result, he was penalized two strokes. The 26-year-old finished the tournament two strokes behind second-place finisher Collin Morikawa.
