Patty Tavatanakit and Jake Knapp carded an eagle and five birdies without a bogey in the third and final round of the Grant Thornton Invitational. However, they had to put the pedal to the metal on the back nine to claim victory.
On the front nine, both Thitikul and Kim and Kupcho and Bhatia came from behind to share the lead with the eventual champions. But Tavatanakit and Knapp managed to card four birdies on the back nine to take the title by one stroke.
The 2023 runners-up, Brooke Henderson and Corey Conners, posted the best score of the day (10-under, tied with Megan Khang and Matt Kuchar), including a back nine of 7-under 29. But their charge was not enough and they finished in fourth place, three shots off the lead.
Meanwhile, defending champions Lydia Ko and Jason Day carded an eagle, four birdies and a bogey in the third round of the Grant Thornton Invitational. They dropped two places on the leaderboard to finish in sixth place.
Nelly Korda and Daniel Berger were among the teams to fall the most on the leaderboard during the day (three places). Korda and Berger played the third round bogey-free, but with only five birdies to finish in 13th place.
The final round of the event was played in a modified four-ball format. In this modality, each player hits his tee shot and then team members must exchange the position of their ball with their partner for the second shot. From there, they must continue to play until they hole the ball. The lowest score is taken as the team score.
