PGA Tour icon boasts new equipment from $4.85B-worth golf peripheral giant
PGA Tour player Tommy Fleetwood has made some changes to his bag as he tees it up at this week's Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship. The English golfer secured a spot in the top 70 of the Race to Dubai list and joined the stellar field of the first playoff event on the DP World Tour.
The tournament started with its first round on Thursday, November 7, and before the start of the event, during a practice round on Wednesday, November 6, Fleetwood was spotted with a new prototype putter from the $4.85 billion enterprise value company (via Stock Analysis), TaylorMade.
The PGA Tour icon opened up about the new golf gear in his bag. Fleetwood said (via Golf.com):
“It is a new TaylorMade putter that I’ve been working with at home. And yeah, like the guys at TaylorMade, they have done an amazing job like we spoke about, designing something like a little bit different. It’s felt really, really good.
It was the perfect time for me to be practicing with something. It’s sort of difficult these days. I love testing my equipment and testing things that are new and different, but it’s so difficult with the way the schedule is. The tournaments are packed in so close to each other, and there’s never not a big event or not an important event it seems."
The 2024 Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship has started with its first round, and Fleetwood was impressive with his game. He began with a birdie on the first hole and added an eagle on the second before carding another birdie on the next. So far, he has made seven birdies and an eagle for a score of 9-under. However, he still has two more holes to complete the round.
At the time of writing, Fleetwood is in the lead at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship in a three-way tie with Thorbjorn Olesen and Johannes Veerman. The DP World Tour event will have its finale on Sunday, November 10, at Yas Links.

Fleetwood is one of the most successful golfers in the world. However, he has yet to win his first event on the PGA Tour. Nonetheless, he has 10 professional wins, with seven on the DP World Tour. Earlier this year, he won the Dubai Invitational.
