PGA Tour pro donates $25,000 to charity through competition earning

PGA Tour Pro Cameron Young engaged in a philanthropic activity this week. Young won the RSM Birdies Fore Love competition, which awards a charitable donation to the golfer with the most birdies, or better, every week, over eight PGA Tour fall season events. The winner can donate the payout to a foundation of his choice.

Young donated $25000 to the Folds of Honor charity, which supports families of deceased or disabled military personnel and first responders. Following his benevolent deed, the PGA Tour’s official X (formerly Twitter) account posted a picture of the golfer and wrote a caption that read,

“Bigger than golf ❤️Cameron Young donates $25,000 to Folds of Honor through his winnings in the RSM Birdies Fore Love competition, benefitting military and first responder families.”

Young shared his thoughts with the PGA TOUR after his act of generosity,

“I’m grateful to support Folds of Honor through the RSM Birdies Fore Love program. These funds will provide educational scholarships and academic opportunities to deserving military and first responder families across the country, many of whom have paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.”

Cameron Young last played at the BMW Championship. The golfer settled for a T43 in the tournament and couldn't qualify for the Tour Championship as a top-30 player.

When former PGA Tour Pro donated $25000 to cancer-stricken golfer's family

When Bryson DeChambeau played on the PGA Tour in 2018, he supported Jarrod Lyle's family through his long drive contest winnings at Bellerive Country Club, ahead of the PGA Championship that year.

DeChambeau won the competition with a 331-yard drive and received $25000 as a charitable prize. He could donate this to the family of any winning pro and he selected the Lyle family.

The PGA Championship's X account shared a video of DeChambeau's thoughts. The post carried a caption that read,

“Bryson DeChambeau won the Long Drive Competition on Tuesday. He donated his $25,000 in charitable winnings to Jarrod Lyle's family.”

In this post, DeChambeau shared how the Lyle family was going through a tough time and that he wanted to help the family.

“Jarrod Lyle, the story, it’s just so sad…His kids are suffering, obviously, from it and the whole family is. And I just thought it would be the right thing to give it to [daughters] Lusi and Jemma. They deserve that and they need that more than anything right now.”

Lyle was diagnosed with cancer at 17 years old and his leukaemia returned in 2017. He earned his PGA Tour card in 2007 and won two tournaments on the Web.com Tour in 2008. He last played professionally in May 2017.

Players wore yellow ribbons at the 2018 Bridgestone Invitational in honor of Lyle. The golfer succumbed to his disease on August 8, 2018.
