PGA Tour pro Michael S. Kim compares 'funny' tennis etiquette to golf, says he'd celebrate where others "almost apologize"
PGA Tour pro golfer Michael S. Kim recently shared a humorous post on his X (formerly Twitter) account comparing golf etiquette with those of tennis or table tennis. He found it amusing that tennis or table tennis players often apologize to their opponents when they score a "lucky" point by hitting the net.
Kim joked that it would be funny if he as a golfer did the same and apologized to his playing partners if his ball bounced off a tree back onto the fairway. He wrote:
"I find it funny when table tennis or tennis players almost apologize if they get a lucky point after hitting the net. Imagine if i say sorry to my playing partners after my golf ball bounces off the tree back into the fairway. I’m celebrating that all the way down the fairway."
Kim is not participating in the Paris Olympics 2024, but he seems to be enjoying the games from afar. The 31-year-old last competed at the 3M Open, where he missed the cut after rounds of 70 and 71.
This season, he has played in 22 events and made the cut in 12 of them, with one top-10 finish and 7 top-25 finishes. Kim began his professional golf career in 2013 and competed on the Korn Ferry Tour before joining the PGA Tour. He won the 2018 John Deere Classic with a remarkable eight-stroke victory over Bronson Burgoon, Joel Dahmen, Francesco Molinari, and Sam Ryder.
Kim has also competed in all the four Majors in his career. However, he has only made the cut at the US Open and The Open Championship.
Michael S. Kim reacts to Andy Murray's hilarious retirement post
Former World No.1 tennis player Andy Murray has retired after a successful career. The British athlete played his final event at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Shortly after announcing his retirement, the 37-year-old shared a humorous post, writing:
"Never even liked tennis anyway."
Michael S. Kim reacted to Murray's post, commenting:
"Amazing."
Relatedly, Murray also updated his status on X (formerly Twitter) from "I play tennis" to "I played tennis." He didn't compete in the singles event at the 2024 Olympics. He participated in the men's doubles with Dan Evans. However, they were defeated in the quarterfinals by the USA's Taylor Fritz and Tommy Paul, marking the end of Murray's career in the sport with a defeat.
Meanwhile, this week at the Paris Olympics, fans are eagerly watching the golf event, which is set to conclude on Sunday, August 4. Jon Rahm and Xander Schauffele are leading the field after the third round and are strong contenders for the gold medal.
