PGA Tour’s Michael Block commits to LIV Golf feeder event ‘to play against some of the best players in the world’
The 2023 PGA Championship sensation Michael Block is all set to play in a LIV Golf feeder event. The American club pro golfer has confirmed he will tee off at the International Series England, scheduled to take place in August. This Asian Tour event will be held at Fox Hills and is part of the LIV Golf League's feeder system.
Notably, Michael Block became a household name at last year's PGA Championship. He stole the limelight with his phenomenal performance and became a fan favorite. He made a hole-in-one at the Major in 2023 and was fortunate to finish in the top 15, recording his best finish at a Major.
He later earned an exemption to compete in PGA Tour events and even qualified for the 2024 edition of the Major. However, this season, Michael Block struggled with his game and did not make the cut at the PGA Championship.
Block, who plays golf professionally for his club, is now looking forward to competing against some of the best players in the world at the LIV Golf event. Speaking about his participation in the Saudi Circuit event, Michael Block shared his excitement and said (via Golf Week):
“There is no doubt that the strength of the field will be strong, however this is what I live for, to play against some of the best players in the world and compare my game.
“I believe The International Series is now one of the best possible avenues for any golf pro throughout the world and I have no doubt that you are going to see more and more budding American golfers doing their best to qualify and play in The International Series," he added.
It is important to note that the International Series is a developmental event for the LIV Golf League. The winner of the tournament will earn a spot in the Saudi Circuit, while at least 30 other players at the top of the leaderboard have a decent chance to join the newly formed circuit.
How has Michael Block played in 2024?
Following his incredible performance at last year's PGA Championship, Michael Block earned a spot in several PGA Tour events in 2024. He played at The American Express earlier this year and shot three rounds of 72, 71, and 67 but failed to qualify.
Later, Block competed at the Farmers Insurance Open but again struggled with his game, returning home after playing two rounds of 69 and 76.
Since he finished within the top 15 at the PGA Championship in 2023, Block earned an exemption to compete in the Major in 2024 as well. However, his struggles persisted in 2024, and he failed to make the cut, shooting two rounds of 76 and 73.
Michael Block last played at the Charles Schwab Challenge but again failed to qualify after carding two rounds of 72 and 74.
