"Pinehurst is no joke, this is a ball striker's paradise": Bryson DeChambeau looking forward to a ‘tough test of golf’ at the 2024 US Open
Bryson DeChambeau is coming off a disappointing outing at LIV Golf Houston. That followed an excellent showing, one of the best in his career, in a tight loss at the PGA Championship. His Major performance bodes well for this week's US Open, where he will try to win for the second time.
The only Major DeChambeau has won is the 202 US Open. This time, the event is being held at Pinehurst. It's not the first time he will play in this iconic venue, but it is the first time he's playing a US Open here.
DeChambeau said:
"My game's in a pretty good spot. I didn't play my absolute best last week, but I can tell you that I'm excited for the week. I got some good mojo going forward. I'm looking forward to a tough test of golf out here. Pinehurst is no joke, this is a ball striker's paradise. You have to hit it in the middle of the greens... The center of the green never moves, so I'll try to focus on that this week."
DeChambeau is one of the most renowned ball-strikers in the world, which could play to his advantage this weekend. He will need to rely on that skill and swing true to have a shot at winning again.
The LIV Golf star put together an impressive effort at Valhalla for the PGA Championship. Overall, he shot 20 under par. That ordinarily would likely be a winning score. That includes a clutch putt on the 18th hole to draw even with Xander Schauffele.
However, DeChambeau could only watch for the next few holes, as Schauffele made par on 16 and 17 before hitting a birdie to win on the 18th hole. It left Bryson DeChambeau still searching for a second Major title.
Now, he has another chance to add one to his mantle. He also has the chance to add a second Major victory for LIV Golf. Since its inception, just one player has won a Major: Brooks Koepka at the 2023 PGA Championship.
Bryson DeChambeau confident for US Open
Bryson DeChambeau's performance at the PGA Championship may have ended with agony, but the LIV Golf star claimed that he learned a lot from that outing. He believes his play in that Major is a reason to feel confident ahead of the US Open. Via NBC Sports, he said:
"I played spectacular that week. I scored impeccable. I didn't strike it as well as I would have liked to, but I got fortunate in certain situations. I capitalized with my putting being a huge asset to me... It's given me a lot of confidence. Valhalla's definitely given me a lot of confidence, now it's just time to go execute."
As per odds from ESPN BET, Bryson DeChambeau is +1600, tied with Brooks Koepka, to win the US Open at Pinehurst.
