"Princess Rory McIlroy" - Fans guess which golfer might have caused damage at the 2016 US Open after 45-YO golfer's big claim
Several fans online pointed to Rory McIlroy after Graeme McDowell recently asked everyone to guess the player who damaged the dressing room at the 2016 US Open.
Recently, news emerged that Wyndham Clark allegedly caused destruction at the lockers in Oakmont Country Club's locker room. The golfer received a lot of online criticism for his reported antics at the iconic venue, but some golfers stepped up to support him.
Graeme McDowell, the 2010 US Open winner, also supported Clark, noting that he has seen far more harm caused by golfers than simply two broken lockers.
In his social media post, Graeme McDowell disclosed that more destruction occurred during the 2016 US Open. The 45-year-old did not reveal who was responsible but asked everyone to guess.
An X-page NUCLR Golf responded to his post and asked fans to guess which golfer it could be. The post read:
"🚨👀🤬 In response to @TronCarterNLU reporting that Wyndham Clark allegedly caused damage to the Oakmont locker room, 2010 U.S. Open Champion Graeme McDowell says it's ‘minimal’ compared to what he’s seen, referring to a 2016 incident. Who do you think he’s talking about?"
Fans left numerous comments on this post, and Rory McIlroy was frequently mentioned. Two users even used the word 'princess' to describe the five-time major winner.
"Princess Rory," one fan stated.
"Am sure it's Rory McIlroy. Dudes got an attitude like a princess," another fan pointed out.
"Rory’s sensitive a** ’I’m sure," One fan claimed.
Apart from Rory McIlroy, the fans also made some other guesses in the comments:
"Is it Jordan Spieth?" One fan guessed.
"Shane probably," one fan mentioned Rory's friend Shane Lowry.
Interestingly, Graeme McDowell was paired with Jordan Spieth during the 2016 US Open.
McIlroy, meanwhlie, has suffered a decline in his fortunes since the 2025 PGA Championship, where he had an issue with his driver. He is currently competing in the 2025 US Open at Oakmont.
Rory McIlroy defends himself for not appearing before the media

Rory McIlroy did not appear at any media conferences during the 2025 PGA Championship. At the time, he was accused of using an unauthorized driver before the start of the tournament, and his game suffered a lot due to using a backup driver. During a media appearance at the US Open, McIlroy said that the reason for his absence was the media itself.
The 36-year-old golfer claimed that sometimes the press is frustrating for him and that he he has earned the right to not talk. He stated:
"It's more a frustration with you guys... I feel like I've earned the right to do whatever I want to do when it comes to speaking."
Apart from this, McIlroy also shared his mindset after he made the cut at Oakmont.
"Yeah, it's funny, like it's much easier being on the cut line when you don't really care if you're here for the weekend or not.”
After three rounds, McIlroy was standing at a score of 10-over par but remained way behind title contenders before Round 4 on Sunday, June 15.
