Rasmus Hojgaard updates fans about his ‘unfortunate’ injury at the 2024 Genesis Scottish Open

Rasmus Hojgaard has had multiple injuries in recent years. The four-time DP World Tour winner racked up another problem this week ahead of the 2024 Genesis Scottish Open. The Danish golfer, who has dealt with a myriad of health issues since turning pro, added a tweaked right wrist to the list which includes problems with a rib, shoulder and finger.

Hojgaard appeared for the second round of the Scottish Open at The Renaissance Club with a strap on his wrist. This concerned fans. However, the golfer quickly eased their tensions by posting a 7 under on day two of the competition. The 23-year-old European star managed to share T5 alongside the likes of Collin Morikawa and event favorite Rory McIlroy.

Taking about his ‘unfortunate’ injury, the golfer noted that he was “just happy” that he could play now. He further noted that the injury is still painful to play with.

Rasmus Hojgaard said during round two of the Scottish Open at The Renaissance Club, as quoted by Golfweek:

“Very unfortunate. I had a lie in the rough on 13 (on Thursday). I didn’t think much of it until I hit the shot, and the club just stuck into the ground. It feels better today. I’m just happy that I can play now.
It wasn’t because it was too painful. I can feel it pretty much on every shot. It’s just having the confidence to put a better swing all the time. It will probably be better the next couple days. I was kind of expecting a few shots out there to be very painful but that didn’t really show up. So, I’m happy with that.”

It is pertinent to note that fans’ concern about Rasmus Hojgaard’s injury hiked on multiple occasions when the golfer let his hand fly off the club after shots. However, he later claimed that the action had nothing to do with his injury. The third-youngest player to win on the DP World Tour said he will return for the third round on Saturday.

Rasmus Hojgaard’s season so far

Rasmus Hojgaard has had a slow season so far. The Danish star started off the new year with a T11 finish at the Dubai Invitational. Notably, the golfer had finished his 2023 schedule with a T11 at the DP World Tour Championship in December. The event was won by his twin brother Nicolai.

Rasmus came close to his first win of 2024 in January when he finished solo second at the Ras Al Khaimah Championship. He managed T8 at the Bahrain Championship and T6 at the Qatar Masters. The golfer failed to make the cut at the Cognizant Classic and the European Open. The 23-year-old had a forgettable PGA Championship outing, finishing T68.

Coming off the back of a T4 finish at the Dutch Open, Rasmus is now on track for a big finish at the Genesis Scottish Open, happening a week ahead of The Open Championship at Royal Troon.

Rasmus Hojgaard’s twin Nicolai, who played 15 times on the PGA Tour this season, managed to sit a single stroke behind his brother after day two. He posted a 63 on Friday to get to 9 under through 36 holes. He also narrowly missed out on an ace by inches, making him a hot pick for day three of the event.
