RBC Canadian Open adds Nick Taylor's iconic 2023 winning putt to its permanent logo

Golf Canada and the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) announced Friday, December 13, that they have decided to incorporate the image of Nick Taylor's iconic moment when he won the RBC Canadian Open into the event's official logo. In 2023, Taylor became the first Canadian to win the national championship in 69 years.

Effective immediately, the silhouette of Nick Taylor tossing his putter into the air will be incorporated into the official logo, replacing the letter "i" in the word "Canadian". Taylor threw his putter in the air after making a 70 plus-foot putt to win the event in a playoff.

The idea of adding Nick Taylor's silhouette to the logo came about as a strategy to celebrate his victory in 2024. Due to its success, it was decided to add the same permanently.

Upon the release of this information, RBC Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer Mary DePaoli said (via the official Golf Canada website):

"Team RBC Ambassador Nick Taylor’s historic winning putt will forever be an iconic moment in Canadian sports history and one of the most thrilling plays at our country’s national championship."
"It is only fitting that Nick leaves a lasting legacy on the tournament logo and we continue to be very proud of the mark he’s made on Canadian golf," she added.

Taylor, for his part, expressed his gratitude for the honor with the following words:

"This recognition from Golf Canada, my partners at RBC, and everyone involved in the RBC Canadian Open is humbling beyond words. I was flattered by last year’s commemorative tournament logo, but for that to now become the permanent brand identity of our national open is truly an incredible honour."

Nick Taylor has played on the PGA Tour for nine seasons. He has four wins and 21 top 10s in 282 starts.

Nick Taylor had to go from strength to strength at the 2023 RBC Canadian Open, starting with a first-round 75. He improved his position on day two when he carded a 67 to make the cut by one stroke.

His charge to the top of the leaderboard came on the so-called moving day, when he made nine birdies and no bogeys for a 9-under 63. This left him in a tie for 8th place, three shots behind 54-hole leader CT Pan.

In the fourth and decisive round, Taylor carded eight birdies and six bogeys to move into a share of the lead with Tommy Fleetwood.

The Canadian and Englishman then played a playoff that needed four holes. The first two were played on the 18th and the third on the 9th. Images of Canadian fans running from one hole to the next not to miss their countryman's performance became viral on social media internationally.

Fleetwood and Taylor remained tied through the first three holes. On the fourth, Taylor reached the green in two. Fleetwood made it in three, but his ball was 12 feet from the hole, while Taylor's was 72 feet six inches.

It was at this point that Taylor made his iconic play. The Canadian made this huge putt for the title and celebrated by launching his putter into the air.
