Rickie Fowler details his latest equipment change, reasons swapping in a mini-driver
Rickie Fowler is back in action on the PGA Tour after a two-month hiatus. However, he has made some changes to his equipment ahead of his first start since July.
Fowler is set to compete at the Sanderson Farms Championship, which will tee off on Thursday, October 3, at the Country Club of Jackson in Jackson, Mississippi. This will be his first appearance since the Open Championship.
On Tuesday, October 1, Rickie Fowler shed light on his bag during the pre-event press conference for the Sanderson Farms Championship.
"Yeah, got a few things," he said. "From irons, they're just a black version of the same Cobra King Tours that I was playing, just a different color. I thought they looked a little bit better. Put those straight in.
"About the extended time at home, I had a little extra time to be able to do some more testing with a LAB putter and saw a lot of good things from it. Like I said, liked what I've seen at home, so giving that a test run this week. Hopefully we continue to see good things," he added.
Fowler added that he had a mini driver from TaylorMade as a 3-wood replacement. He felt it would be beneficial off the tee for the golf course like Jackson.
"A lot of times with new equipment, for the most part everyone out here is not trying new things or putting things into play if they don't benefit them or be better what's in there," he continued. "Ultimately we're all trying to get better, as am I, and see if there's little things we can piece together to continue to move forward," he added.
Rickie Fowler has been winless on the PGA Tour since the Rocket Mortgage Classic. Unlike last season, his performance has been underwhelming. He has missed six cuts in 20 appearances and has failed to achieve even one top-10 finish so far. He will be hoping for some positive change after making equipment tweaks.
