Rickie Fowler's disappointing Round 2 at the Memorial Tournament leads to his worst ever PGA Tour career score
Rickie Fowler ended his participation in the 2024 Memorial Tournament early, as he missed the cut with a score of 14 over. In addition, he reported a negative personal record that was quite difficult to assimilate.
Fowler carded an 82 for the second round of the 2024 Memorial Tournament, which is the worst 18-hole score of his PGA Tour career.
His previous worst score (81) had been achieved at Chambers Bay, playing the first round of the 2015 US Open. Then he matched it precisely at Muirfield, during the first round of the 2020 Memorial Tournament.
Rickie Fowler started his Friday round at the 2024 Memorial Tournament with a par on hole 1. Trouble came quickly as he double bogeyed the 2nd, bogeyed the 3rd and 4th and double bogeyed the 5th.
Fowler made par on the 6th, but added another double bogey on the 7th. He then closed the front nine with par on the 8th and bogey on the 9th.
He started the back nine with a bogey on the 10th. He then made par on four consecutive holes, followed by his only two birdies of the round on the 15th and 16th. However, he bogeyed the final two holes for a score of 10-over 82 for the round and 14-over 158 for 36 holes.
During the first round, Fowler had two birdies, four bogeys and a double bogey for a score of 4 over.
A look into Rickie Fowler's performance during 2024 season
Rickie Fowler has played 14 events during 2024 with eleven over cuts. However, he has not posted a single Top 10s. His best result was finishing T18 at the RBC Heritage, which is also his only Top 25 of the year.
Fowler made the cut at the first two majors of the season. He finished 30th at the Masters and T63 at the PGA Championship. He will also be in the US Open, as he finished in the Top 10 of the 2023 edition.
His results place him 108th in the 2024 FedEx Cup ranking. He is currently not qualified to play in the season-ending playoffs.
Season statistics show that Fowler is struggling with all aspects of the game. He currently has negative numbers in all parameters of the 'Stroke Gained' (SG) statistic, except in 'SG: Around the Green', where he reports a 0.034, ranking 89th on the PGA Tour.
