Rickie Fowler, Xander Schauffele present TGL on the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon
As the TGL League nears its debut, the promotional campaign is ramping up. This Monday (Nov. 25), the New York Golf Club team, led by Xander Schauffele and Rickie Fowler, presented the league on the popular The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
Schauffele and Fowler were joined by teammates Cameron Young and Matt Fitzpatrick. During their appearance on the show, the players explained what the TGL is and shared some interesting details about it.
Host Jimmy Fallon showed a picture of Rickie Fowler standing next to the screen of the golf simulator on which TGL is played. Fowler said that the size of the screen was really impressive, even though, as he said, he is "not very tall." [0:26]
Fowler also explained that one of the impressive details of TGL is that even though it is indoors, the ball is hit 60 yards away from the screen. This allows you to see the ball actually in flight, something that is not possible in traditional simulators.
He also emphasized that all shots within 30 yards of the hole are played live, as the facility is equipped with both green and greenside rough, bunkers, etc.
After discussing the TGL, the players and Jimmy Fallon held a golf challenge in which they attempted to putt the ball into various holes on a table. The challenge was ultimately won by Jimmy Fowler.
The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon featured other celebrity guests, including Kaley Cuoco, star of the popular series "The Big Bang Theory".
What is Jimmy Fallon's relationship with TGL?
Jimmy Fallon is a well-known golf enthusiast. He started playing at the age of nine under the tutelage of his grandfather and was even a member of his high school golf team.
Although his golf career did not take off, his love for the sport never waned. One of the signs is his association with the TGL, led by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy.
Jimmy Fallon is one of the investors in the new golf league. As he explained on Monday's show, he is one of the co-owners of the New York Golf Club.
In the new venture, Fallon is joined by former Major League Baseball (MLB) star Dereck Jeter, former tennis star John McEnroe and former professional football players Michael Stahan and Eli Manning.
The new golf league will begin next January 7th and will initially be played every Tuesday at 21:00 Eastern Time. Later in the season, it will be played on Tuesdays at the same time.
The league consists of six teams of four players each (New York Golf Club, Boston Common Golf, Atlanta Golf Club, Los Angeles Golf Club, Jupiter Links Golf Club, and The Bay Golf Club). However, only three players have to play each match, with one player resting. The format will combine both singles and foursomes.
