Rory McIlroy shares 2 qualities he admires about Scottie Scheffler post East Lake
Rory McIlroy praised Scottie Scheffler's consistency after Scheffler claimed the FedEx Cup title, referring to his 2024 season as one of the best individual seasons for any professional in a long time.
On Sunday, September 1, Rory McIlroy carded a 5-under 66 in the final round of the Tour Championship to finish ninth in the FedEx Cup. He finished at 16-under, 14 strokes behind winner Scottie Scheffler, who claimed his seventh title on the PGA Tour this season.
During the post-round interview, McIlroy had some words of praise for the World No. 1 golfer. He mentioned consistency and attitude as two qualities he admired about Scheffler.
"I feel like he just sort of brings the same demeanor to the course every single day, no matter what position on the leaderboard he's in," he said.
"He's just amazing to just watch the way he manages himself around the golf course. Yeah, we'll look back on 2024 and it's obviously one of the best individual years that a player has had for a long time."
McIlroy also praised Scottie Scheffler's ability to make more birdies than bogeys at the moment.
"I think the one thing I've always admired about Scottie is the amount of bogey-free rounds he shoots," he continued. "If you just go back over the last two, three years and you look at how many rounds he shoots that he'll shoot like 4-under par, no bogeys, doesn't look spectacular at all, but it's just so solid, doesn't really put himself out of position.
"When you don't make a ton of bogeys, the field has got to do something really special to keep up," he added.
When will Rory McIlroy compete next?
While Scheffler's season is over, with just the Presidents Cup remaining, Rory McIlroy still has five events to play this season.
He will next compete at the Amgen Irish Open, which will take place from Thursday, September 12, to Sunday, September 15, at Royal County Down GC in Newcastle, Co Down, Northern Ireland.
McIlroy will also compete in the BMW PGA Championship and the Alfred Dunhill Championship later this year before heading to Dubai for two DP World Tour playoff events.
This year, Rory McIlroy has won two titles on the PGA Tour and one on the DP World Tour. Although the PGA Tour season is over, he's leading the DP World Tour's Race to Dubai standings. For the uninitiated, he has won the Race to Dubai five times in his career.
