Ryder Cup's $750 tickets sold out, randomly alloted among over 500,000 registrants
Tickets for Ryder Cup 2025 have been sold out among 500,000 registrants. The biennial tournament is scheduled to take place in New York next year, and although there are still months left before the competition's commencement, tickets are already sold out.
The Ryder Cup tickets became the talk of the town earlier this year due to their high prices compared to previous years, ranging from $255 to $750. The PGA of America issued a statement where they claimed that all matchday tickets for the tournament have been sold out
"Match day tickets for the 2025 Ryder Cup have sold out. As expected, demand was enormous, with more than 500,000 registrants entered in the random selection process, and orders filled from across the United States and 47 countries around the world. There were more than 2,500 transactions from Europe," the statement read.
Notably, the Ryder Cup is one of the oldest golf tournaments, held every two years. The last edition was held in 2023 in Rome, where Team Europe dominated on home soil, winning with an impressive score of 16 1/2 to 11 1/2.
The upcoming tournament will take place at Bethpage Black Course in Bethpage State Park. Team Europe and Team USA will compete in a three-day event, each fielding a team of 12 players. Keegan Bradley is the captain of the USA team in the 2025 Ryder Cup, while Luke Donald leads the European team.
PGA of America Director defends the high ticket prices of the Ryder Cup
Last month, PGA of America director Bryan Karns appeared on an episode of SiriusXM Radio, where he defended the high ticket prices for the Ryder Cup. He compared the pricing to finals of other major sports, such as the NBA, to justify the cost of golf's biggest event. Speaking on the Ryder Cup ticket prices, Karns said:
"We view ourselves as a Tier 1 event that's on par with a World Series, or with an NBA Finals Game 7. That was a part of it. So when we look at pricing, we're able to tap into data from all these different venues."
He further elaborated that the upcoming Ryder Cup edition has an all-time high demand, explaining that they wanted to "price it appropriately."
"There are people who have the Ryder Cup on their bucket list in the same way that someone would have a Yankees opening game World Series on their bucket list. Ultimately, we felt like that's where we are. The demand is at an all-time high for this event, so we wanted to make sure we priced it appropriately," he added.
Established in 1927, the upcoming edition will be the 45th iteration of the event. The 2025 Ryder Cup will take place from September 25 to 28 in New York.
