Ryder Cup winning stars Tommy Fleetwood, Shane Lowry and others attend the 2024 Wimbledon Grand Slam
Ryder Cup stars Tommy Fleetwood, Shane Lowry, Matt Fitzpatrick, and Luke Donald were spotted in the Royal Box at Centre Court, Wimbledon. These players have been key members of Europe's Ryder Cup team, contributing to multiple victories for Europe in the tournament.
The official Wimbledon account shared pictures of the golfers on X (formerly Twitter) and captioned the post:
"A pleasure to welcome stars of @RyderCupEurope's winning team to the Royal Box."
While talking to Lynsey Hooper of Wimbledon Radio Channel, Tommy Fleetwood was asked about his experience at Wimbledon and whether he always enjoys attending the grass-court Major. He said:
"Yeah, well I haven't been here since 2016 so I'm very excited to get back and looking forward to the day. I'm here with my wife. She's since gotten into tennis the last couple of years and loves it so yeah we're very excited for today and we've got a few great games on tender courts so we're very excited." (0:26)
Fleetwood also shared his Wimbledon pictures with his wife, Clare Craig, on X and stated that it was a privilege to be there. He also wished Novak Djokovic all the best.
Shane Lowry was also present at SW19 with Fleetwood. Lowry was asked if he has always been a tennis enthusiast and about his experience at Wimbledon. He said (via Wimbledon Radio Channel):
"Yeah, I mean how good's British sport in summer? So I've been lucky the last few years to get invited here and come and watch and yeah it's always a very special day of the year."
Shane Lowry further mentioned that he learns a lot about sportsmanship from tennis. He noted that Novak Djokovic was playing that day and expressed that it would be a pleasure to watch him.
Tommy Fleetwood has played for Team Europe in the Ryder Cup in 2018, 2021, and 2023, while Lowry participated in 2021 and 2023. Europe emerged victorious in both 2018 and 2023. In 2023, Fleetwood partnered with Rory Mcllroy, and the pair were dubbed "Fleetwood Mac".
In 2023, Europe won 16.5-11.5 at Marco Simone Golf and Country Club in Guidonia, Rome, Italy whereas in 2018, it won 17.5-10.5.
Tyrrell Hatton and Luke Donald also attended the Wimbledon Grand Slam
British golfer Tyrrell Hatton and his wife Emily Braisher were also seen at SW19. Hatton has also represented Europe thrice in the Ryder Cup (2018, 2021, and 2023).
While talking to Lynsey Hooper, Hatton talked about his experience at SW19 and said:
"I think it's just appreciating, you know, a different sport and the highest level so yeah, very, very special to be here and looking forward to the day ahead."
Hatton will next be playing at the 2024 Open Championship. Talking about his upcoming participation, Hatton said:
"I was at Troon in 2016 and we had a good week there so it'll be nice to do a bit better this year."
2023 Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald and his wife Diane Antonopoulos were also spotted attending the grass-court Major.
Luke Donald is one of the most experienced Ryder Cup players for Europe and has been part of five victories. In 2018, he was the vice-captain and in 2023, he was the captain of Team Europe.
