Scottie Scheffler continues where he left off as he sinks an eagle on his very first hole in the 2024 PGA Championship
Scottie Scheffler began his first round at the PGA Championship at 2:23 pm (Eastern Time) on Thursday, May 16. It didn't take long for him to show the talent that has led him to win four of his last five starts on the PGA Tour.
On his very first hole, Scottie Scheffler made an eagle that catapulted him into the top 20 of the leaderboard. Scheffler sent his ball straight into the hole with an iron shot from the fairway, more than 160 yards away.
Scottie Scheffler started with a 324-yard drive that ended in the right fairway. From there, the pin was 167 yards away, so Scheffler went for the green with one of his irons. His shot was of such quality that the ball took just one bounce off the green and went straight into the hole.
Scottie Scheffler is considered the main favorite to win the PGA Championship title. Scheffler is currently experiencing unprecedented momentum in his career with four victories and a second place in his last five tournaments.
Scottie Scheffler's participation at the Major was in doubt as many fans expected him to miss the event following the birth of his first child less than a week ago. Scheffler missed the Wells Fargo Championship to be with his wife in the days leading up to the birth of their child.
Scottie Scheffler's incredible hot streak
Scottie Scheffler is living the best moment of his sporting career so far, but his current streak started much earlier. Most specialists think Scheffler has been on a hot streak since the beginning of 2022.
Since that time to date, Scheffler has played 53 official tournaments on the PGA Tour with only three missed cuts (all in 2022). In that period, he has won 10 tournaments, including two Majors (The Masters in 2022 and 2024).
Scheffler has also finished in 25 other Top 10s, including six second-place finishes. Between November 2022 and July 2023, he strung together 18 consecutive Top 12s.
As for the Majors, Scheffler has participated in all nine editions played from 2022 to date. He has missed only one cut (2022 PGA Championship) and has finished in six Top 10s, including his two victories. His worst result (besides the cut) was a T23 finish at The Open Championship 2023.
Scheffler has shined in several unofficial events as well. He won the 2023 Hero World Challenge and finished second in the same event in both 2021 and 2022.
However, the Texan has taken his results to another level in 2024. In 10 events played so far, Scheffler has four wins and five other Top 10s. His worst result of the year was a T17 finish at The American Express.
