Scottie Scheffler details the ‘frustrating’ moment that led to his meltdown at the BMW Championship

Scottie Scheffler opened up about his meltdown during the second round of the 2024 BMW Championship. The American golfer had a rough outing on Friday, August 23, during the second round of the PGA Tour event. On the 10th hole, he lost his temper after a bad shot and shouted out loud.

During a press conference on August 25 at the 2024 BMW Championship, Scheffler was asked about his frustration. In response, Scheffler admitted that it’s frustrating when things don’t go one's way and went on to discuss the condition of the golf course.

"It's frustrating when you feel like you're doing stuff that's good and it's not turning out the way you're intending it to. I remember on No. 10 I felt like I was hitting it in the rough way too often. Hit it in the rough there again, hit it in the water," Scottie Scheffler said.
"The day before, I hit a really good shot into 15 and the ball spins off the green. I have the same number, very similar number, I think I had just a touch shorter on 10. I'm like, oh, perfect, big slope again. That green was soft yesterday. Should have just chipped a little 56. Hit it exactly how I wanted to, ball lands next to the pin, and it bounces six over the green. It's kind of like, man, that's just tough," he added.

The 2024 BMW Championship concluded on Sunday, August 25, with Scheffler finishing in a T33 position. He struggled throughout the tournament, shooting rounds of 71, 72, 74, and 72 to finish at one over. However, he still managed to secure his top position in the FedEx Cup standings and will tee off this week at the Tour Championship.

Scottie Scheffler lends support to Matt Fitzpatrick during the 2024 BMW Championship driver dispute

During the final round of the 2024 BMW Championship, Scottie Scheffler teed off with Matt Fitzpatrick, who had a rough day on Sunday as his driver cracked during play. Fitzpatrick asked the officials for permission to replace it before continuing.

However, PGA Tour Chief Referee Stephen Cox denied the request, stating that the driver did not have significant enough damage to warrant a replacement under the USGA's Model Local Rule G-9.

During Fitzpatrick's argument with the referee regarding the driver change, Scheffler stepped in to support the Englishman. Scheffler said (via Mirror):

"You can feel the crack. The damage to the club is making the club not perform. It's been damaged throughout the course of play. That's the first shot offline he's hit all day and it carried about 80 yards shorter."

With the conclusion of the 2024 BMW Championship, the six automatic qualifiers for the Presidents Cup have been announced. Scottie Scheffler secured his spot on the U.S. team. The Presidents Cup will feature 12 players each on Team USA and Team International.

Both teams have now announced their six automatic qualifiers, with the remaining six to be chosen by the team captains. Scheffler topped the U.S. team rankings to qualify for the Presidents Cup, alongside Wyndham Clark, Sahith Theegala, Xander Schauffele, Patrick Cantlay, and Collin Morikawa.
