Scottie Scheffler dubs media interaction ‘part of it’ following Rory McIlroy 'frustration' controversy
Scottie Scheffler opened up about attending the media conference regularly following Rory McIlroy's controversy for not attending it. This week at the 2025 US Open, McIlroy has missed the press conference following his struggle on the greens.
After the third round of the Major, Scottie Scheffler opened up about attending the press conference and called it a "part of it." He hilariously talked about the questions asked by journalists during the conference while also talking about attending it regularly. He said (via ASAP Sports):
"Sometimes you get good questions, sometimes not so good. Doug throws out a bad one every now and then (laughing). No, this is part of it, I guess."
Meanwhile, Rory McIlroy skipped the press conference in the last two rounds of the Major, and on Saturday, when he talked to the journalists, the Northern Irishman was asked the reason for missing the press conference after the rounds. He said (via ASAP Sports):
"It's more a frustration with you guys."
"In what way?" he was asked by a reporter.
"I'm just, yeah, I don't know. I have, I've been totally available for the last few years, and I'm not saying -- maybe not you guys, but maybe more just the whole thing," McIlroy replied.
McIlroy started his game at the 2025 US Open with an opening round of 74 and then carded the next two rounds of 72 and 74 to settle in a tie for 49th place. Meanwhile, Scottie Scheffler secured a spot in the top 15 after three rounds. He was tied for 11th at 4-over.
