Scottie Scheffler feels he’s ‘almost living in a simulation,’ weighs in on his trophy-filled year

For Scottie Scheffler, this year has been unforgettable for many reasons. In addition to winning numerous times, he also became a dad for the first time. Recently, he said that it almost felt like he was living in a simulation.

Scheffler is in Montreal this week for the Presidents Cup 2024, which will begin on Thursday, September 26. This marks the second consecutive time he is part of the biennial event.

On Tuesday, September 24, during the pre-event press conference for the Presidents Cup, Scheffler reflected on his accomplishments this season.

"I feel like sometimes I'm almost living in a simulation out here," he said. "I still feel like a kid sometimes because I play golf. I don't really have a real job that I go to. I get to go play golf for a living. I married the girl I dated in high school, and we have a kid now, which is probably even more surreal.
"We still have the same friends we did five to ten years ago. Life for us at home hasn't changed a bit. It's just out here things are a bit different," he added.

The two-time major champion said that he played a lot of solid events and it was good to win some. He added that he had performed well in past seasons as well but hadn’t been able to win much.

"Sometimes in this game the breaks go your way and sometimes they don't," Scheffler continued. "You know like Rory's had some close calls. He has a playoff last week, and a guy eagles the final hole to beat him, and that's kind of a tough deal. He didn't lose, he got beat. So that can happen."
"Sometimes the breaks fall your way, like Tom Kim and I in the playoff at Travelers. He did birdie 18 to get in the playoff, but then he made a bogey on the playoff hole. Just little things like that sometimes can help," he added.

Scottie Scheffler cited the example of Sam Burns, who made a 40-footer to beat him at the Charles Schwab Challenge 2022 while other players struggled with the wind on Sunday.

The 28-year-old golfer added that he made the crucial putts when he needed them, which helped him secure the title this year.

"I made a putt to win the Memorial on the last hole," he added. "And back nine at the Masters, final round at the Players, I made a lot of putts that were not necessarily on 18 green, but a lot of putts that were important to keep momentum in the round going."
