Scottie Scheffler opens up about playing 'friendly wagers' against Sam Burns during practice rounds- "He would smoke me at the beginning of the week"
Scottie Scheffler, the top-ranked golfer in the FedEx standings, has qualified for the BMW Championship. Before the showdown began at Castle Pines, Scheffler opened up about friendly wagers during practice rounds with Sam Burns in a press conference on August 21.
Scheffler explained his approach to practice rounds, revealing that he participated in match plays with the best ball to win during the practice rounds. Moreover, Scheffler mentioned that he favored Sam Burns as his playing partner because they performed better together. Additionally, Scheffler and Burns paired up to go against Justin Thomas and Max Homa on Monday.
“Usually always a best ball match play just because it's a practice round…It's more just match play. I played -- Sam and I play a lot of practice rounds together, but he would smoke me at the beginning of the week, just would abuse me. So I started taking him as my partner, and we've been a lot better since I took him as my partner. We'll usually play two-on-two matches or if it's just Sam and me going out, we'll play a little one-on-one match,” Scottie Scheffler said (ASAP Sports).
He added, “This week, Sam and I played Justin and Max on Monday, and it's just fun. It's a good time with your buddies. The beginning of the weeks are typically more relaxed.”
Starting today, Scottie Scheffler will be playing at the BMW Championship, which is the second FedEx playoff event. At the FedEx St. Jude Championship, he finished at T4.
