Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, Brooks Koepka & Bryson DeChambeau will each make $4M in PGA vs LIV battle - Reports
Scottie Scheffler, Bryson DeChambeau, Rory McIlroy, and Brooks Koepka will each reportedly be paid handsomely for their involvement in December's exhibition match. The four players, split by their respective tours, will face off in a televised event.
According to Daniel Rapoport, each one is going to take home a $4 million payday. Rapoport reported on X, formerly known as Twitter:
"The players will also profit big time on this, of course. Appearance fees rather than playing for money during competition. The number I keep hearing is $4 million guaranteed for each player."
He likened it to Signature Event or LIV tournament money, and each player will earn it just for participating in the event. Rapoport also confirmed that there was no mention of either the PGA Tour or LIV Golf in the official promotion.
This is because the event has nothing to do with the two tours. It seems that way, but it was organized outside them so that an event purely for fans could come together.
Rory McIlroy discusses December's matchup with Brooks Koepka, Bryson DeChambeau
Rory McIlroy has talked at length about the tournament in December. In it, he and Scottie Scheffler will take on Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka. The golfer said it's not meant to "send a message" but that it's something "all golf fans" can be excited about.
He said (via Sports Illustrated):
“You've got the best player in the world. You've got two guys in Bryson and Brooks that have won majors in the last two years. You've got me in there who—I haven't done what those guys have done the last couple years but I've definitely been I feel one of the best players in the world."
McIlroy sees it as a way to show golf fans that there can be some coexistence between the two tours and give a glimpse at what the future might hold for everyone.
McIlroy also said that the date is important. December doesn't have much golf, so it's a way for everyone to get excited and interested in the sport again during a usually quiet time.
