Scottie Scheffler's dominance sparks competitive spirit in Sahith Theegala- "It gives us something to strive for"
As per Sahith Theegala, Scottie Scheffler's ongoing dominance on the PGA Tour was sparking a competitive spirit among him and other competitors.
Theegala shot 4-under 67 on Saturday, April 20th, to aggregate at 13-under and finish tied for 4th after 54 holes at the RBC Heritage. However, once again, Scottie Scheffler didn't take long to reinforce his dominance, as, by the end of the third day, he had crept up the leaderboard. He fired a low 8-under 63 to jump nine spots and take a one-stroke lead with just eighteen holes to go.
During the post-round interview on Saturday, Theegala praised the World No. 1 golfer, stating that it was pretty epic what he witnessed. He said that he grew up watching Tiger Woods' final years of dominance, followed by the likes of Rory McIlroy, Dustin Johnson, and Jordan Spieth having their phases of dominance, and now with Scheffler, they could be in the middle of something special, which was quite cool.
"Played behind him every day so far," he continued. "He'll be behind me tomorrow. I just think it's cool. It's got to be annoying for some of the guys, but I love it.
"I still think I have a way to go to really prove myself that I am, I would say, a top-15, -10 player in the world. I haven't gotten to that point quite yet. I'm not annoyed, I'm just kind of sitting back, and it's honestly really cool to see. It's really cool to see. It gives us something to strive for," he added.
Scottie Scheffler has so far won the Arnold Palmer Invitational, the Players Championship, and the Masters Tournament. Further, he had a runner-up finish at the Texas Children's Houston Open. Now he is in a formidable position to win his fourth title of the season on Sunday.
