Scottie Scheffler shares fresh details on his exchange with journalist during his infamous PGA Championship arrest
Scottie Scheffler recently shared new details about his infamous arrest during the 2024 PGA Championship. The World No. 1 had a challenging time ahead of the second round of the major event in May when he was detained by police in front of Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville.
The American golfer was headed to the venue for the PGA Championship when he was arrested on charges of reckless driving and allegedly assaulting a police officer. The incident was witnessed by ESPN reporter Jeff Darlington, who was present at the scene and shared the details.
Recently, Scheffler appeared on an episode of the Pardon My Take podcast and was asked if he thanked Darlington after his arrest. The two-time major winner shared Darlington came to talk to him and asked if Scottie wanted to call someone.
Scheffler said :
"I actyally did. I spoke to him [Darlington] at the end of that week because he actually came up to me and apologized. He's like, 'Hey man, I'm really sorry.' And he was awesome about the whole thing...because he was worried...because he obviously was on TV a bunch after that. So he was worried that I thought that he was doing it to, like, help himself like he came up and apologized like, 'Listen man, I'm just so sorry, it's my job I gotta do all the TV stuff.' (at 1:05:14)
"I said, 'listen man, I was glad that somebody saw what happened and that was just there,' because he helped. Like he was getting yelled at by the police and like coming up being like, 'No like this is not.' He's like 'no no' and they're like, 'get the heck out of here,' and eventually he came up to the car and was like, 'Who should I call?' I was like, 'dude just call Teddy'... that's the first name I could think of. And so he got hold of Teddy, got hold of Blake, and then all this stuff started happening from there and fortunately it's all over now."
Notably, all the charges against the World No. 1 were later dropped due to lack of evidence.
