Shane Lowry says the Wyndham Championship getting ‘canceled for a few hours’ won’t surprise him

Shane Lowry has discussed the potential impact of weather on this week's Wyndham Championship. The PGA Tour event is scheduled to begin with its first round on Thursday, August 8, at Sedgefield Country Club. However, the weather forecast predicts a high chance of rain, which could affect the tournament.

Ahead of the event, Lowry expressed his concerns about the possibility of delays due to inclement weather. In a press conference, the Irish golfer mentioned that he hoped not to play too much golf in the rain and acknowledged the likelihood of the tournament being delayed.

"You kind of look at the forecast, and you see what it's going to do, and when you see what it's going to be like tomorrow, you're hoping it's going to be something else. But I'm just hoping not to have to play too much golf in the rain, whether that means it is canceled for a few hours or something like that. It certainly can," Lowry said (via Ten Golf's YouTube Channel at 6:40).

Despite the unfavorable conditions, Lowry stated that he is "well equipped to play in the rain."

"It can make a difference to your tournament, but I'm well equipped to play in the rain if I have to. I've done it plenty of times, and it's just not where you're used to coming to Greensboro. You're used to 100 degrees and the ball going far and the course playing firm and fast. But it is what it is. And it'll be the same for everyone out there tomorrow," he added.

The 2024 Wyndham Championship is set to start at 6:55 a.m. ET on Thursday (August 8). However, the weather forecast for the day predicts a significant chance of rainfall. Tournament officials have also announced that fans will be denied entry due to the weather conditions.
