Shane Lowry sinks a birdie putt at Postage Stamp, takes solo lead at The Open

Shane Lowry seems to be having a remarkable week at the Royal Troon Golf Club. After finishing T9 at the Travelers Championship in June, Lowry found himself in a great position after the end of Round 1 at The Open Championship. Lowry carded a score of 5-under on Thursday.

The good links play that the 37-year-old displayed yesterday seems to be continuing today as well. In Round 2 of The Open Championship, Lowry was sharing the lead at one point with England's Daniel Brown. A putt at the Postage Stamp allowed him to take the sole leader's position.

On what is the shortest hole at the Royal Troon Golf Club, Lowry sunk a classic put to take the solo lead. This putt sunk by the Irishman was also his second birdie of the day. Lowry had earlier scored a birdie on the par-4 hole 1, beginning his day on a solid note.

Having completed the front nine in Round 2, Lowry is currently 2-under-par. It will be interesting to see how Lowry performs in the back nine of the Royal Troon since the back nine is considered to be the more challenging aspect of the iconic golf course.
