"Shot of my life" - Bryson DeChambeau details conversation with caddie that got him the US Open win
A perfect piece of advice from his caddie helped Bryson DeChambeau win the 2024 US Open. After finishing within the top 10 in the last two Majors in 2024, DeChambeau finally clinched the trophy on Sunday at the tough greens of Pinehurst No.2 Golf Course.
It was a do-or-die moment when DeChambeau arrived at the final hole of the fourth round. Playing on the par-4, 449-yard hole was not an easy task. Prior to DeChambeau, Rory McIlroy had hit a shot on the hole but missed a short putt. When DeChambeau arrived to play, he was nervous and sought advice from his caddie.
His caddie replied with a 13-word message that motivated him. In an interview with Golf Channel, Bryson revealed what his caddie told him:
"You got this shot. I've seen way harder shots pulled off from you."
DeChambeau then made the putt on the hole and won the 2024 US Open.

Bryson DeChambeau hired Gregory Bodine as his caddie in 2023. Bodine was with him when DeChambeau won the LIV Golf Greenbrier event last year and also enjoyed success earlier this year at the first two Majors.
Gregory Bodine had previously worked for PGA Tour star Tony Finau. Meanwhile, when DeChambeau was playing on the PGA Tour, Tim Tucker was his caddie. They had a successful stint together, winning eight PGA Tour events.
When DeChambeau won his first Major, the US Open in 2020, he worked with Tucker. However, they parted ways in 2021, after which DeChambeau worked with Brian Zeigler and also had Ben Schomin on his bag for a while before finally hiring Bodine.

During the winner's conference of the 2024 US Open, Bryson DeChambeau opened up about his caddie, Gregory Bodine, and explained their relationship. He emphasized that Bodine has been an important part of his game and has significantly helped him improve.
Speaking of his caddie, DeChambeau said (via Golf.com):
"He’s been a special human being for me in my life, getting me to realize what life is about. It’s not just all about golf. He works hard. He’s a diligent worker. Brings the best out of me.”
Furthermore, the two-time Major winner elaborated on his relationship with Bodine and their bond. He added:
“Sometimes I wish he’d speak up more. Sometimes I wish he’d speak less. Does he have veto power? No. I mean, we just have a conversation about what’s the best decision for both of us. ‘You don’t have veto power.’ [Here, he laughed.] But we have a pure conversation about what’s going to be the best situation. We make the decision together."
Bryson DeChambeau won his second major at the 2024 U.S. Open. He previously finished runner-up at the 2024 PGA Championship and tied for sixth place at the 2024 Masters.
