“Sports unites people”: Caitlin Clark details why she decided to play golf
WNBA star Caitlin Clark has always been candid about her love for golf. She reflected on the same ahead of her appearance as a celebrity at the ANNIKA Drive Pro-Am on November 13.
Before taking part in the event, she shared her thoughts on playing golf. The LPGA’s page posted a picture of Clark on X and quoted her saying:
“The thing I would say is I feel sports unites people. That's what this feels like, too. It's bringing people together where they can find joy in something. I think that's what so beautiful about sports and what I really love about it and what I loved about it my whole life.”
Clark revealed her thoughts on the ANNIKA Drive before appearing at the tournament, via CBS Sports:
“I love golf, so the opportunity to play in the pro-am for a tournament with a legend like Annika Sorenstam's name on it is so exciting…Gainbridge is a leader in supporting women's sports, and that's clear through their commitment to me, this event, Billie Jean King and Parity Week. I'm looking forward to seeing all the LPGA players on the driving range, being part of the Women's Leadership Summit, and of course, teeing it up in the pro-am with Annika.”
Caitlin Clark is coming off an excellent debut season with the Indiana Fever in the WNBA. She won the Rookie of the Year award and also featured in the WNBA All-Star Game, before leading the Fever to the first round of the playoffs.
Caitlin Clark spoke about her love of golf ahead of Pro-Am debut
Caitlin Clark shared in an interview with ESPN that she practiced golf before taking part in the Annika Pro-Am, and said that she's looking forward to a competitive session.
“I've practiced a little bit and I just had the quote about becoming a professional golfer. Everybody thought I was serious. I was not serious. I love it. I love being outside and making it competitive with my friends…I'm strong, and I can hit it. It just usually doesn't go straight. I mean sometimes it goes straight, but it depends. You just step up there and hope for the best. ... I just don't want to hit anyone with a golf ball. That's my No. 1 priority. I was pretty nervous. I'll probably be nervous tomorrow, too. I don't know. I mean, I remind myself, like, I don't really care what happens. Doesn't really matter,” Caitlin Clark said.
The 22-year-old continued about her love for golf and how she doesn't play the sport for a living but for fun. She added that there would be many people who would desperately want to be in her position and be part of the LPGA's Annika Drive.
Clark is a handicapped 16 and the WNBA player will play in Sorenstam’s Pro-Am on Wednesday, November 13, teaming up with Nelly Korda.
