“Stranger things have happened”: Tyrrell Hatton not giving up on a potential challenge to Bryson DeChambeau for the US Open title
Tyrrell Hatton is one of only eight players holding a score under par after 54 holes at the 2024 U.S. Open. Hatton sits T7 to start the final round, but has not given up his aspirations of taking home the title.
After finishing his third round, Hatton gave a brief statement to LIV Golf News Service reporter Mike McAllister. He made it clear that he still sees himself with a chance of closing the gap to the leader.
This is what Tyrrell Hatton told Mike McAllister:
"It's a tall ask. Stranger things have happened. But me and everyone else that's playing, we'll give it our best."
Tyrrell Hatton finished the third round with a score of 1 under 209. The Englishman is six strokes behind his LIV Golf colleague, Bryson DeChambeau, who leads the event.
However, the gap between Hatton and the rest of the top contenders is not that wide. He is separated by only three strokes from the second place finishers (Matthieu Pavon, Rory McIlroy and Patrick Cantlay), and only one stroke from Hideki Matsuyama and Ludvig Aberg, who are tied for fifth place.
Hatton will play the final round as a duo with Tony Finau, who is tied with the Englishman in T7. His tee time is at 1:48 pm (Eastern Time).
