“That was a cool day for us watching” - Ludvig Aberg shares being inspired by LIV Golfer’s Open Championship win at Royal Troon
The Open Championship starts next week and Ludvig Aberg will play in the Major for the first time, at Royal Troon. Aberg was asked how excited he was for the event, in a press conference. He replied that he has followed the tournament for a long time and Henrik Stenson’s 2016 triumph inspired him. Stenson currently plays on the LIV Golf circuit.
“Absolutely the open is a tournament that I've watched for a very long time. Especially the last time it was at Troon, when Henrik won and that was a cool day for us watching. And it'll be a very cool experience and looking forward to it a lot,” Ludvig Aberg said. (1:02)
In another interview, Aberg described his experience of watching Henrik Stenson win and what it meant for him as a Swede watching another Swedish golfer win.
“I definitely remember watching it as it happened, I was in high school at the time. And it was a cool day for Swedish golf. Obviously what he's done for Swedish golf is amazing. And I've never talked to him about it but hopefully we can share a conversation about that.” (3:40)
That year, Stenson knocked out Phil Mickelson by two strokes and took the cup at the Open Championship.
