"That’s been a really bad tendency”- Jordan Spieth on his short-putting woes

Over the past couple of years, Jordan Spieth has been in decent form. He hasn't grabbed many victories but has been consistent. The 17 top 10s and four runner-up finishes in the last two years have been a testament to Spieth's form.

In the recently concluded Players Championship too, Spieth ended at T-19, another top 20 finish. However, there's something that is still lacking, which is stopping him from crossing the final hurdle. Short putting is something that seems to be a point of concern for the 29-years old.

After his third round at TPC Sawgrass, Jordan Spieth said he was aware of the problem and that he's been working with Cameron McCormick on rectifying the issue.

Spieth said:

"It's more a left arm elbow feel for me than anything. But I am getting -- and I'm just trying to lock in this left side. Which I may be a little more bent over than when I've been at my best, but the traction of everything is just to match -- my ceiling putting has been best in the world."

Spieth added that it has been a nice week for him in terms of putting and he has been solid inside 10 feet and has made a few putts outside of 10 feet as well.

"I've had a tendency for a few years that's been a really bad tendency," said Spieth. "It was trying to continue to find ways, instead of just in a path feel, but actually in a big -- I'm trying to take my hands out and use my big muscles more. I've always been a little handsy putting in a good way. "

Spieth said that while many great putters like Rickie Fowler, Tiger Woods, and Ben Crenshaw have been handsy, he was relying more on it.

As per Jordan Spieth, earlier when he was under pressure or approaching the hole, he couldn't find time to correct his strokes and make bad ones. He added that he felt he didn't have to save the strokes. However, he believes his strokes will improve significantly with more practice during tournament rounds.

He added that he's been taking notes from his old videos of the times when he was putting well.

"I have, you know, video, I can just match, you would think, the stroke and the feel to then. That's really the goal. There's no reason to try and do anything different than at that time period," said Spieth.
