"The beginning to open up the ecosystem": Bryson DeChambeau responds to major update regarding Ryder Cup eligibility
LIV Golf can be attributed to changing the landscape of golf, featuring some of the world's most renowned golfers, including Jon Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau, and Brooks Koepka. The Saudi-backed circuit was formed with the promise of a refreshing take on the sport, amid the increasing prominence of the PGA Tour and the DP World Tour.
While the rival tour was at the receiving end of a lot of backlash for the new format as well as for the allegations of human rights violations against the Saudi Arabian government, LIV Golf has managed to pull its weight for three seasons. The league is currently on the cusp of finishing its third season with the ongoing Team Championship in Dallas.
LIV Golfers who jumped ship from the PGA Tour weren't allowed to take part in any of the tour events, with the exception of the majors. This move further removed their eligibility to play in tournaments like the Ryder Cup. However, in a new development, the PGA Tour recently announced that LIV Golf players would be eligible to be a part of the US Ryder Cup team.
Bryson DeChambeau shared his opinion on the news, reflecting on the start of an "ecosystem."
"It’s just the start. It’s the beginning to opening up the ecosystem back to a place where players can play across numerous tours and support different charities alike and different tournaments alike in different countries and regions. So I think it’s a great first step."
The LIV Golf Dallas event will wrap up on September 22 and will see a team be crowned with the championship title.
