“The best greens we've putted on ever”: LIV golfer Cameron Smith describes Pinehurst 2 course ahead of 2024 US Open
Cameron Smith is one of the top LIV golf stars in the field for the 2024 US Open. Like the rest of his colleagues, Smith is already at Pinehurst No. 2, preparing for the event.
Johnson Wagner of Golf Channel spoke with Smith, who expressed gratitude for the course's conditions. Being one of the best putters in the world, the Australian began by highlighting the excellent condition of the greens.
This was part of what Cameron Smith had to say:
"I love it [the course]. First of all it's like a lot of eye candy going on, it looks so sick, the greens are probably the best greens we've putted on? I would say close to ever and the course is awesome... everything I hope for."
Speaking on why preparing for the US Open is different from any other event of the year, Camero Smith had this to say:
"It's just more challenging, it's the US Open. I think [Pinehurst No. 2] as different as it is to some of the US Open golf courses we play, it is still a US Open, you still have to hit the fairway, a lot of centers of greens and and a lot of two putting."
Cameron Smith has played eight editions of the US Open, with seven cuts passed and three Top 10s. His best result has been finishing fourth twice, 2015 and 2023.
