The Masters Round 2 leaderboard: Weather suspends play as Brooks Koepka stretches lead
The Masters' second round was suspended due to weather. Trees were down, and after more than one delay, Augusta National opted to suspend the round entirely. The second round will resume on Saturday at 8 am.
In a statement released via CNN, Augusta National said:
“The safety and well-being of everyone attending The Masters tournament will always be the top priority of the Club, which will continue to closely monitor weather today and through the Tournament."
Nevertheless, even though the round isn't quite over, here's where things stand after the second day at the Masters.
The Masters suspended as Brooks Koepka leads Jon Rahm and field
After two days, here is how the leaderboard looks:
- Brooks Koepka, -12
- Jon Rahm, -9
- Sam Bennett, -8
- Collin Morikawa, -6
- Viktor Hovland, -6
- Jason Day, -5
- Jordan Spieth, -5
- Sam Burns, -5
- Cameron Young, -5
- Gary Woodland, -4
- Phil Mickelson, -4
- Joaquin Niemann, -4
Brooks Koepka, who was not the LIV Golf player with the best odds coming in, heads the leaderboard again after day two. The Masters' first round saw him in a three-way tie for first with Jon Rahm and Viktor Hovland. He shot five under for the second round to take sole possession of first.
Rahm is not far behind, though. He was two under this round and is three shots behind the LIV star for the lead. After a brutal start, this is an excellent turnaround.
It's been another shocking display from Rory McIlroy. The world number two golfer has been knocked for not doing as well during major tournaments, but he was pegged as an early favorite to win a Masters for the first time this year.
Unfortunately, he has put together yet another disappointing performance, shooting five over and missing the cut at the Players Championship (the unofficial fifth major). He's currently five over and not expected to make the cut once play resumes.
Additionally, Tiger Woods is hovering around the cut line. He's two over, which is about where the expected cut line is. This may be his final Masters trip, and he's barely hanging on.
Conversely, another older golfer appears to be doing quite well; Phil Mickelson is currently at four under and competing for a very nice placement this year.
