"The old man has still got some life left"- Ian Poulter finds himself chasing Jon Rahm, Brooks Koepka for LIV Golf Chicago victory
English golfer Ian Poulter is looking forward to chasing down Jon Rahm, Sergio Garcia, and Brooks Koepka at the 2024 LIV Golf Chicago event. Poulter finished in a tie for fourth place after two rounds of the Saudi Circuit with a score of 4-under.
He trails Rahm, who is leading at 7-under, Garcia, who secured second place at 6-under, and Koepka, who finished third at 5-under. Heading into the final round of the tournament, the Englishman will tee off three strokes behind the leader. However, he is excited and confident about his game.
During the press conference after Saturday's round, Ian Poulter was asked about his game and his chase for the title. He jokingly referred to himself as an old man who "still has some life left," while also acknowledging that winning the event would not be easy.
The 48-year-old golfer said (via ASAP Sports):
"Awesome, let's go. The old man has still got some life left. Let's see what we can do. It's not going to be easy. These boys are good. But we've got a chance. Majesticks GC are in position. Again, we're higher up the order than what we have been for a while, so I think it's exciting for all of us.
"This golf course will show its teeth tomorrow. I think with four scores to count tomorrow, it's going to be hard. You're going to get guys that can move all the way forward, and we're right there in position, so hopefully the four of us can put some heat on these boys," he added.
Ian Poulter played a round of 68 on Saturday and jumped to fourth place, tying with Joaquin Niemann and Adrian Meronk. Rahm, on the other hand, struggled in the first round but on Saturday he carded a round of 6-under 64 and took the lead in the tournament.
