The Open Championship 2024 weather update: Is rain expected during round 3 at Royal Troon?

The first two rounds of the Open Championship were quite windy for the players. The third day at Royal Troon is not going to be any different, as showers are expected during the moving day.

As per the official weather forecast, Royal Troon is expected to witness rain on Saturday, July 20. The conditions are expected to be cloudy throughout the day and there is a 75% probability of precipitation. Light showers are expected before noon but rain might get heavier in the late afternoon.

As for the winds, they will be all over the place and keep switching directions throughout the day. South to southeast winds will travel at 9–13 mph with gusts of 14–19 mph. In the late afternoon, the winds will change direction and blow from southwest to west at 8–11 mph, with 12–16 mph gusts. Winds are likely to switch direction again after 6 pm ET and are expected to blow from west to northwest at 5–8 mph.

As of now, Shane Lowry has a two-stroke lead over Dan Brown and Justin Rose after 36 holes at the Open Championship. Billy Horschel, Dean Burmester, and Scottie Scheffler are tied for fourth at five strokes back.
