The Open Championship snubs Tiger Woods from featured group coverage, LIV Golfer’s group act as replacement
Tiger Woods has been snubbed from the featured group coverage for the second round of the Open Championship. He has been replaced by LIV golfer Bryson DeChambeau, who will be in the third featured group for the day.
On Thursday, July 18, Tiger Woods had a horrible start at the Open Championship, carding an 8-over 79 in the opening round. He made six bogeys and two double bogeys but could only pick up two birdies on Day 1. He was moving fine, but the lack of match practice was visible in his play as he looked a bit rusty with his shots.
Following the first round, the featured groups for the Friday round of the Open Championship were announced. Two groups are in the morning session, while the other two are in the afternoon. While Woods is set to tee off in the second session, he is surprisingly not in either of the featured groups.
The first featured group has Shane Lowry, Cameron Smith, and Matt Fitzpatrick teeing off at 4:47 am ET on Friday, July 19. The second group has Jordan Spieth, Scottie Scheffler, and Cameron Young resuming play at 4:58 am ET.
For the afternoon session, Ludvig Åberg, Bryson DeChambeau, and Tom Kim are the first featured group and will tee off at 9:48 am ET. Rory McIlroy, Tyrrell Hatton, and Max Homa are in the final featured group and will begin play at 10:10 am ET on Friday.
When will Tiger Woods tee off at the Open Championship on Friday?
Tiger Woods is paired with Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele for the second round of the Open Championship. They will tee off on Friday at 4:25 am ET.
Woods had a tough start, shooting 79 in the first round, placing him 14 strokes behind the leader. Patrick Cantlay scored 2-over 73 and is tied for 43rd. Xander Schauffele had a strong performance, shooting 69 to tie for fourth.
The second round begins at 1:35 am ET with Ewen Ferguson and Marcel Siem starting from the first hole. Mason Andersen, Masahiro Kawamura, and Sam Hutsby will be the final group to begin the play on Day 2 and will tee off at 11:27 am ET.
Following the first round of the Open Champion Daniel Brown took the surprise lead after shooting 65. Former Open champion Shane Lowry was one stroke back after shooting 66.
