"They’re very good out of fairway bunkers" - Jason Day explains recent equipment changes

Jason Day has recently been experimenting with not only his clothing but also his equipment. During the 2024 Masters, Day was seen making the switch to Srixon instead of his usual TaylorMade bag of equipment.

The former World No. 1 has been experimenting with his equipment in recent days and has now decided to use Srixon ZX5 MKII, ZX7 MK II in his 5-iron down to PW, and his three and four irons. Speaking about the change in his clubs, Jason Day said via Golf Monthly:

"For me, they spin a little bit less. They’re very good out of fairway bunkers, too. I haven’t played too much in the rough yet, so I still need to get an understanding of how they come out of the rough, but for me, it was all about spin control."

This was not the first time that Jason Day has tried Srixon. He had previously tried the Srixon ZX7’s but he did not particularly like it due to its spin. However, he decided to give it another chance and it seems to have done the trick for him this time.

Jason Day asked to change apparel alongside his equipment changes at the 2024 Masters

Jason Day might have changed his equipment on his own terms at the 2024 Masters, but he was asked by tournament officials to change his apparel as well. Day was wearing a jumper that said 'Malbon Golf Championship' on it during the first round of the tournament.

However, during the second round, he was asked to remove the piece of clothing. While Day does not know why the request came through, he did oblige respectfully and took off the vest. He said via CNN:

“It came from Augusta National. I don’t know if it was a green jacket. I don’t know who it was. They asked and I respectfully took it off. They asked me to take the vest off. Respectfully, you do that because it’s all about the tournament here, and I understand that. I respect the tournament.”

Ultimately, Day finished T30 at the Masters. Now, he is teeing it up once again, this time at the 2024 RBC Heritage which is being held in South Carolina.
