“This battle for the soul of professional golf gave Tiger Woods a purpose”: Golf writer talks about 15x Major winner’s resurgence off the course
Tiger Woods underwent a recent surgery that kept him out of action for many months just as the legendary golfer was hoping to make a comeback. The American golfer also suffered multiple injuries from a brutal car crash prior to this setback and many believed his time in professional golf was done.
However, Woods made an incredible comeback in the most unusual way possible all because of LIV Golf. Golf writer Alan Shipnuck recently spoke about how Tiger Woods made a comeback to the greens while fighting for the 'soul' of professional golf. The 47-year-old is one of the most accomplished golfers of all time and feels he needs to fight for the sport that gave him everything. Alan Shipnuck added via CNN Sports:
“This battle for the soul of professional golf gave Tiger a purpose.”
“It gave him a rallying cry. He was this galvanizing figure for the PGA Tour, fighting for its legacy.”
With the current controversy between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf, Tiger Woods has arrived as a true veteran speaking for golfing heritage instead of the massive prize purses and the awards and recognition. Amidst a brutal injury, terrifying accident, and divorce, Woods is back vying for the betterment of professional golf.
Alan Shipnuck wants to thank LIV Golf for Tiger Woods' comeback
Following his injury, Tiger Woods has been out of golfing action, having won his last major tournament in 2019. However, according to Shipnuck, he is back in action. The American golfer recently flew to Delaware for an impromptu players' meeting to discuss a new direction for the historic PGA Tour.
Shipnuck also believes that Woods has been a loner all his life and currently wants a more human connection with his friends and colleagues. Shipnuck thanked LIV Golf for the astounding change in Woods, as he believes they've made him more engaging and present.
“I really think it’s been a crucial part of Tiger’s road back from that accident, to have more human connection and to feel the love and the warm embrace of his colleagues."
Shipnuck added.
“We may ultimately have to thank LIV Golf for giving us a new, improved, and more engaged Tiger Woods!”
