“This one was for you guys” - Byeong Hun An dedicates his Genesis Championship victory to a section of his fans
On Sunday, October 27, Byeong Hun An won the Genesis Championship, defeating Tom Kim in a playoff. After ending his nine-year drought on the DP World Tour, Byeong Hun An dedicated his success to fans in the United States.
Byeong Hun An carded a 5-under 67 in the final round of the Genesis Championship to reach a 17-under total, tying with Tom Kim and forcing a playoff. On the playoff hole, he made a birdie on the 18th to secure the second win on the European Tour.
Following his win, the 33-year-old South Korean golfer took to social media to thank his US fans for their support.
"Thanks for all the support guys back in states," he wrote. "This one was for you guys"
Prior to this week, Byeong Hun An’s only DP World Tour win had been at the 2015 BMW PGA Championship. Since then, he had not won any titles on the major golf circuits until this week. Earlier this year, he came close to winning the Sony Open but lost in a playoff. Despite the loss, this was a stronger season for him, with five top-10 finishes on the PGA Tour.
During the post-round interview, Hun An said the win was a 'sweet ending' to the season.
"It's been a great year. I've put a lot of work into it," he told DP World Tour. "It'll be the same next week when I get back. It's going to be another offseason where I have to work hard for a better next year. This feels amazing. I'm going to enjoy it for a while, and then I've got to get back on it," he added.
