Tiger Woods files a 'motion to intervene' against his ex Erica Herman
Tiger Woods' attorneys filed a 'motion to intervene' on Wednesday afternoon. The motion allows the 47-year-old to be a defendant in the alleged breach of the tenancy agreement at19th Judicial Circuit Court in Martin County, Florida.
The attorneys stated that there was no tenancy agreement in the first place, neither in writing nor in oral. They further claimed that Woods sponsored his ex-girlfriend's stay at the luxury resort and helped in arranging funds for her new residence.
Earlier on Monday, Woods' former girlfriend Erica Herman sued the trust, which is allegedly owned by the golfer. Herman claims that the trust has control of at least $30 million after she was asked to move out after their breakup in October.
Herman's lawyer alleged that Woods pressurized Herman to sign a non-disclosure agreement which she believes is "invalid and unenforceable" and that the trust is using unfairly against her.
Woods initiated arbitration proceedings in December 2022 to prove that Herman has no legal claim to reside in his home and is not eligible for any financial compensation from him. However, the arbitration process was temporarily halted on January 26 after Herman cited the Speak Out Act, a newly passed federal law that offers protection to individuals from sexual assault and harassment.
The motion said:
"Though this action involves Mr. Woods' personal residence and arises out of Mr. Woods' decision that Plaintiff should no longer live in his home following the breakup, Plaintiff did not sue Mr. Woods."
The motion added that the disputes filed by Herman in the lawsuit against the trust were disputes between her and Woods. As per the attorneys, Tiger invited Herman to live with him as a 'guest' in his residence, claiming that there was no tenancy agreement between the two.
"On the other hand. Mr. Woods never transferred to Ms. Herman any ownership interest in or rights of possession to the Residence."
