Tiger Woods proposes getting exempted as ‘additional player’ at signature events – “I’m not going to take anyone’s spot”

The ongoing 2024 golf season has not seen Tiger Woods make many appearances on the course. While Woods started the season with The Genesis Invitational in February, he has only played in the three Major championships since then.

Woods will next be seen playing at the year's final Major, The Open Championship. Ahead of the tournament, Tiger Woods made an interesting proposal to continue playing in signature events.

Woods said:

"If I can be included, that will be great but I’m not gonna take anyone’s spot."

To make things clear, Tiger Woods is speaking about being an additional player on the field. For example, if the field has 72 players, Woods will be the 73rd.

It will be interesting to see if Woods' proposal comes to fruition. Since his car accident in 2021, Woods has said that he does not feel the same in terms of physical prowess and isn't participating in a lot of tournaments.

Notably, considering his current schedule, it seems the 2006 Open Championship winner is working on what he said in December 2023.

How many Major championships has Tiger Woods won?

Last year, Woods informed fans that he would be playing one tournament a month, and is currently doing the same. At The 152nd Open Championship, Tiger Woods will be playing his fourth Major this season.

While Woods did not experience great success in his first two Majors, it's important to note that he is a 15-time Major winner. The 48-year-old has also won The Open Championship on three occasions.
